Plant a Mixed Herb Container
The satisfaction you’ll get from this easy project will have you searching for more pots and containers. And, the satisfaction when you harvest herbs from the pot will have you searching for more recipes.
Step 1: Choose a container; glazed ceramic or terracotta pots work well. Make sure it’s large enough to hold all the herbs you’ll want to include and has a hole in the bottom for drainage.
Step 2: Choose your herbs. Make sure they’re compatible size-wise—some herbs get surprisingly large, such as dill and fennel. Herbs are generally compatible as to water requirements. Herbs of all kinds look great together because of their varying shades of green, gold, gray and even purple and unique textures.
Step 3: Fill your container with potting soil, gently compacting it as you go. Position your plants in a pleasing way. Place narrow and upright plants in the center of the container, mounding and spreading plants next to them, and trailing plants around the edges.
Step 4: Dig a hole for each plant, placing them in it. The soil level and the tops of the root balls should be about 1 inch below the top of the container rim. Firmly press the soil around the plant roots
Step 5: Scatter 100% organic Home Grown® by Doctor Earth® or Down to Earth Vegetable Garden (following directions) on the soil surface.
Step 6: Water deeply and thoroughly—you want to see the water coming out of the bottom of your pot or container.
