DIY - 6 Easy Steps to Plant Container Roses
Full Sun Project
Project time: 30 minutes
As you prepare to plant your dormant roses, here are a few tips and items you will need to help them succeed.
Step 1: Dig a hole approximately 18-inches deep and 16-inches wide.
Step 2: Mix soil from hole with Dr. Earth Mother Land Planting Mix (mix 50/50) and 1 cup of Dr. Earth Root Zone Starter fertilizer. Put about 6- 8-inches inches of soil mixture in the hole. Tamp down firmly.
Step 3: Place the rose root ball in the planting hole, making sure the bud union is 2 inches above the soil level.
Step 4: Fill in around root ball with soil mixture. Firmly tamp down the soil. With extra soil, create a soil “well” 20-inches in diameter around rose. Water thoroughly with Liquinox Vitamin B-1 solution.
Step 5: Trim the canes of the rose approximately 8 inches from base and remove twiggy growth. Treat each cane cut with Bonide Pruning Sealer.
Step 6: Water weekly filling the soil “well”. Once rose leafs out, feed with rose food following instructions on the package.
Now you're ready to watch your rose sprout with new growth and enjoy for spring!
